ITSA’s New Plant: Building the Foundations for Future Growth

A 32,000 m² site, 14,000 m² of production space, a 30% increase in manufacturing capacity, and a 3,000-ton hydraulic press unique in the railway interiors industry. These are some of the figures behind ITSA’s move to its new production facility in La Bisbal del Penedès, completed in early 2023. More than a relocation, the project represented a major step forward in terms of industrial capability, operational efficiency and sustainability.

Designed for Growth

Strategically located near the AP-7 and AP-2 motorways and within close reach of the Port of Tarragona, the new facility strengthens ITSA’s logistics network and improves connectivity with customers and suppliers across Spain and Europe.

The plant was designed from the ground up to support future growth. Of its 14,000 m² of built space, 6,500 m² are dedicated to warehousing and logistics operations, while 1,000 m² house offices and support functions. The production layout was specifically developed around the manufacturing process, optimizing material flow, reducing internal transport and improving efficiency throughout the facility.

One of the most significant investments was the incorporation of a 3,000-ton hydraulic compression press, enabling the production of larger and more complex composite components with enhanced dimensional accuracy, mechanical performance and surface quality. Together with other investments in equipment and infrastructure, the new plant increased ITSA’s manufacturing capacity by 30%, providing greater flexibility and supporting larger-scale production programmes.

Sustainability also played a central role in the project. The facility incorporates a 300 kW photovoltaic installation, allowing it to operate with 100% electrical self-consumption and significantly reducing its environmental footprint.

A Seamless Transition and a Platform for Diversification

A particularly noteworthy aspect of the project was the relocation process itself. Between August 2022 and January 2023, ITSA progressively transferred production lines, machinery, warehouse operations and personnel to the new site while maintaining full manufacturing activity. The transition was completed without interrupting production or customer deliveries at any point.

Although the railway sector was one of the main drivers behind the investment, the new facility was conceived as a platform for growth across multiple industries. Today, it strengthens ITSA’s capabilities in railway, automotive, aerospace, medical equipment, agricultural machinery, renewable energy and other industries requiring high-performance plastic and composite solutions.

With increased capacity, advanced manufacturing technology, renewable energy generation and an optimized production environment, the La Bisbal plant provides the foundation for ITSA’s continued growth, diversification and innovation in the years ahead.
