SMC reduces up to 54% the environmental footprint in mobile applications
SMC Light Composites outperform steel and aluminum when it comes to Greenhouse Warming Potential with a 54% reduction in mobile applications such as automotive, railway, truck or aircraft, according to the Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) study of the European Alliance for SMC/BMC.
The so called LCA covered the whole process from cradle to grave and revealed excellent results: SMC reduced up to 40% energy use and 47% CO2 emissions versus competing materials.
These sustainability criteria are becoming an important factor for mobility related companies, specifically those concerning energy consumption. For this purpose, ITSA’s engineering department collaborates with their customers in adapting their designs into SMC so they can reduce the weight of vehicles and thus optimize fuel consumption.
SMC is a light, resistant and sustainable alternative material for mobility industries.
